Apply for the 2017 Math-Business PhD Prize!

The application process to the 2017 Math-Business PhD Prize is now launched, with a deadline on July 7th, 2017.

This PhD prize amount is 2000 euros and was awarded for the first time in 2013 under the aegis of the 3 french Mathematical Societies (SFdS, SMAI , SMF). It aims at honouring a PhD thesis which was partly elaborated in an enterprise and yielded both valuable mathematical results and efficient ones for the enterprise.

Modelling a climatic and socio-ecological system

modélisation écologieResearchers from Reims university (France) recently modelled the biodiversity of a socio-ecological system of the forest of the Ardennes (France).  Their work aims to simulate the evolution of a tree population in that forest, in order to analyse the influence of climatic changes on its behavior.

2016 'Le Monde' Research Prize

Julien Jouganous was awarded the 2016 'Le Monde' Research Prize for his PhD entitled Lung metastases growth modeling and simulation, which he did under the supervision of Olivier Saut at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux (CNRS, Université de Bordeaux, Bordeaux INP), and which he defended on September 2015, 23.

Yves Meyer receives the 2017 Abel Prize

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awards the 2017 Abel Prize to Yves Meyer, Centre de mathématiques et de leurs applications (CMLA, CNRS & École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay), "for his pivotal role in the development of the mathematical theory of wavelets".

Quantum Engineering Grenoble - PhD Program 2017

"Quantum Engineering Grenoble" (QuEnG) is a three-year interdisciplinary PhD program funded by the Idex-UGA. It aims to foster high-level research at the interface between physics, mathematics, computer sciences, social sciences, humanities, or with industrial coaching.

The figures presented in legal cases are sometimes based on a misleading or ill-conceived use of mathematics.
