In 2014, 28% of all mathematics theses were defended by women graduates, while only 20.9% of all research positions in the CNRS (Junior or Senior scientists) and in universities (as Lecturers or Professors) are held by women.

Upon its 30th anniversary, femmes&mathématiques organises a conference entitled: "Teaching mathematics: what differences between boys and girls?", which will take place on September 29th-30th, 2017 at the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards PRIMA grants to outstanding women researchers in all disciplines who have a doctoral degree or equivalent research experience and aim to pursue an academic career as a professor in Switzerland, whether they are from Switzerland or from abroad. A PRIMA grant comprises the grantee's salary and project funds for a duration of up to 5 years, the possibility to plan a stay at another host institution and the offer of a mentoring network.
Congratulations to Claire Voisin and János Kollár, laureates in equal shares of the 2017 Shaw Prize in mathematics, "for their remarkable results in many central areas of algebraic geometry, which have transformed the field and led to the solution of long-standing problems that had appeared out of reach" !
The program of the 18th European Women in Mathematics General Meeting will include a series of three lectures by Gigliola Staffilani of MIT and five plenary lectures by Shiri Artstein-Avidan (Israel), Ilse Fischer (Austria), Alice Guionnet (France), Frances Kirwan (UK), Maryna Viazovska (Switzerland and Ukraine).

Thirteen portraits offering an unusual insight into mathematics... The Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (Cirm) in Marseille Luminy (France) will host the exhibition "Women of Mathematics throughout Europe, a gallery of portraits" as of March 6th, 2017 for International Women Day.
A project entitled "A Global Approach to the Gender Gap in Mathematical and Natural Sciences : How to Measure It, How to Reduce It ?" was approved by the International Council for Sciences (ICSU) for the years 2017-2019. The project will produce sound data to support the choices of interventions that ICSU and member unions can feasibly undertake. It will provide evidence for informed decisions, including trends and will provide easy access to materials proven to be useful in encouraging girls and young women to study and work in these fields.
L'Oréal Foundation, together with the UNESCO and the French Academy of Sciences, launches the call for proposals for the 2017 UNESCO/L’OREAL Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences. This project aims to encourage the development of women’s role in science. Since this programme was initiated in 2007, 170 young women received this fellowship.
