Two physicists were awarded the CNRS Gold Medal

The highest French scientific distinction, the CNRS Gold Medal was awarded this year to the physicists Alain Brillet and Thibault Damour, for their major contributions to the detection and analysis of gravitational waves. They received this prize during a ceremony at the Collège de France on December 14 , 2017. The two physicists succeed mathematician Claire Voisin, winner of the 2016 Gold Medal.

  • Grand Prix 2017

The Jacques Herbrand Prize in mathematics was awarded to Hugo Duminil-Copin, Laboratoire Alexandre Grothendieck (CNRS, IHES).

The Jacques-Louis Lions Prize was awarded to Denis Serre, Unité de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CNRS, ENS-Lyon).

This 56-year-old mathematician, a specialist in the numerical analysis of partial differential equations, serves as director of the Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille (southeastern France).

The 2017 André Parent Prize

The André Parent Prize honours a research work led by a group of young mathematicians of secondary and high school. The research may or may not be supervised. It should handle a scientific subject in which mathematics play an important role. The selection committee takes into account the relevancy of the subject chosen, the mathematical skills of the candidates, as well as the capacity to present their subject to a general public audience.

Claire Voisin and János Kollár are awarded the 2017 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences

Congratulations to Claire Voisin and János Kollár, laureates in equal shares of the 2017 Shaw Prize in mathematics, "for their remarkable results in many central areas of algebraic geometry, which have transformed the field and led to the solution of long-standing problems that had appeared out of reach" !

2016 'Le Monde' Research Prize

Julien Jouganous was awarded the 2016 'Le Monde' Research Prize for his PhD entitled Lung metastases growth modeling and simulation, which he did under the supervision of Olivier Saut at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux (CNRS, Université de Bordeaux, Bordeaux INP), and which he defended on September 2015, 23.

Yves Meyer receives the 2017 Abel Prize

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awards the 2017 Abel Prize to Yves Meyer, Centre de mathématiques et de leurs applications (CMLA, CNRS & École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay), "for his pivotal role in the development of the mathematical theory of wavelets".
